ADVERTISING BANNERS

Banner advertising is still useful although it’s been said that this sort of advertising is fading out. Most major companies advertise with banners as part of their advertising campaigns.

Banner Exchanges are the places to go for banner advertising. Before you start a banner campaign you should check out the following on those banner exchanges.

Hits: this can be misleading for instance, hits records the number of times a request had been made for a webpage or graphic image to be shown, usually hits mean the number of times the webpage has been seen not your banner.

Impressions: When someone refers to impressions what they really mean is how many times the webpage had been requested by the web server.

Banner Views: This refers to the number of times the banner has been viewed on the banner server. You have to stay on the server long enough for the banner to download to receive banner views.

Banner Ads: This refers to an Ad Graphic with a hyperlink to the URL of the advertiser. Usually the banner itself will be a gif image although we see more and more Macromedia Flash banners on these servers. The standard banner size allowed on banner exchanges is 468 x 60 pixels.

Clicks: This is referred to by someone clicking on the banner itself and going to the advertiser’s site to take a look. The number of responses to a banner ad is sometimes referred to as (the number of clicks)

Click Through: This is the same as clicks but some sites will just use clicks instead of click thoughts. Click thoughts refer to the number of people that have click on the banner and have been taken to the advertiser’s site.

Click Though Rate: (CTR) a percentage figure used for estimating how many click thoughts that the banner had had, for example 1% click though rate would mean 1% of each 1000 banner views or ten visitors have actually clicked though to your site.

Banners can generally be looked upon as a branding tool. If you want to brand your business it would be good to do some banner advertising. Branding can be very powerful to your business. I have put all my banners on my traffic exchange for people to notice my business.
